Herring Gillnet Licences
Who or How to Apply
The NFA holds 26 Herring Gillnet licences which are leased to First Nations fishers on an annual basis. Applications are accepted from October 1 to November 20 of each year.
To be eligible to lease a herring licence, you must:
- Be a BC Indigenous commercial fisher.
- Herring Gillnet Licences will only be leased to Indigenous fishers who are either the skipper or owner of the vessel upon which the Herring Gillnet Licences will be placed.
- Be a current member of the Native Brotherhood.
To apply, please send in the following documents to our office:
- A completed HG lease application
- Proof of Native Brotherhood membership
- Photo of vessel
Halibut Quota
Who or How to Apply
The NFA holds 4 Halibut tabs with quota. We lease the quota only to First Nations fishers on an annual basis. Applications are accepted from October 1 to November 20 of each year.
To be eligible to lease halibut quota, you must:
- Be a BC Indigenous commercial fisher.
- Halibut Quota will only be leased to Indigenous fishers who are either the skipper or owner of the vessel upon which the quota will be placed.
- Have an L tab or FL tab on your vessel
- Have gear already in place or available on applicant’s vessel.
- Be a current member of the Native Brotherhood.
To apply, please send in the following documents to our office:
- A completed Halibut Quota application
- Proof of Native Brotherhood membership
- Photo of vessel
Rockfish License
Who or How to Apply
The NFA holds one (Outside ZN) Rockfish license. We accept bids for annual leasing from January 1 to March 1 of each year.
To qualify, ensure involvement of a First Nations Skipper OR First Nations Owned Vessel.
